Personal Development

Soundvision has some nice personal development charts.  I have found these
to be particularly useful around Ramadan, but anytime is a great time too.

Islamic Projects

Here are some ideas for Projects that you might want to start at your Islamic Center

  • Start a self-directed library. your Mosque.
  • Start a self-directed  Dawah Center at your Library in the Mosque.
  • Try a showing a video during a halaqa (study circle) or during Ramadan.
  • Build an Islamic Website. It can be easy if you wish (e.g. no programming needed) and FREE!
  • Hijab Workshop
  • Islamic Will/Memorial Society
  • Get good books on Islam into your local library. CAIR has an effort called library project.

During Ramadan, you can download CAIR's Ramadan Publicity Kit (http://www.cair-net.org/ramkit/).

Note: If you need to hand out brochures for your MSA, Islamic event, Islamic website, or dawah here is how to make a tri-fold brochure using MS Word from PC Magazine

If you are a medical student you might find this free medical clinic set up by Muslim students for the poor in Los Angeles, CA to be an interesting case study. http://www.ummaclinic.org

Another thing you might want to check out is the grant writing workshop (see ISNA's grant writing center.) www.isna.net/GrantWriting.

Nolopress has books on setting up not for profits. While you must still constult with a lawyer these books will help you speak more intelligently with your lawyer. www.nolopress.com

Once there were four individuals: Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody --who amoungst themselves were given a task. Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Of course, Nobody knew better so Nobody did it. And that got Everybody angry. As soon as Everybody met Somebody, Everybody let Somebody know that this was NO way to do things. After all, Nobody was doing the actual work, and Everybody felt Somebody should have done it. However, after a suitable pause, Nobody noted that Everybody was upset with Somebody for something Anybody could and should have done.

Moral of the story: Spend your time, money and life in the way of Islam. Do not wait for someone else to do it.
