"In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful. By (the Token of) Time (through the ages), Verily Man is in loss, Except such as have Faith, and do righteous deeds, and (join together) in the mutual teaching of Truth, and of Patience and Constancy." Quran 103

There are websites for inviting non-Muslims into the fold of Islam. Sometimes when we Muslims fast during Ramadan, or wear a hijab, or take a day off for Eid, our co-workers or non-Muslim friends may ask us about Islam. If any show a serious subsequent interest in Islam there are many different resources available to help them on their journey to Islam.

"Easily Understand Islam" is the best book for explaining Islam to others in the West. See also "Koran for Dummies."

The video "The Message" may also help explain the life and times of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).   For those with a scientific bent, You can even read about the stories of converts (e.g. reverts) in "Why new Muslims converted to Islam" and "Stories of people coming to Islam". Read about stories of reverts from around the world. , or also priests coming into Islam . The autobiography of Malcolm X,  The Bible, Quran and Science  , and Ahmed Deedat’s video ( "Is the Bible the word of God?" ), and of course, most importantly the  Quran  iitself are examples of things that are mentioned. Dr. Zakir Naik’s video (Quran and Modern Science (video) ) is another resource for Dawah purposes.
(If you are interested infinding out more about Dr. Naik's organization click here ).

Trying to convince them Muhammad (pbuh) is a prophet try  (19th letter in the Nur collection This letter is about the Miracles of Muhammad(pbuh).  While not the usual way (or even the best way) of making your point this might be helpful sometimes.

For those more seriously interested in Dawah,  (It, for example, mentions the importance of gentleness and patience when inviting newcomers to Islam. ING also has an article "General Guidelines For Presenting Islam To People of Other Faiths" ). Sound Vision also has an article  "Dawah in Public Schools: Some Guidelines  .   During Ramadan, Sound Vision has a Ramadan packet that your child can use to acquaint his/her classmates with Islam and Ramadan. They also have  Ramadan: Fact Sheet For Teachers (this too is a form of dawah) that you can use during Ramadan with the teachers.

The WHY ISLAM project offers a "Dawah Kit" with pointers on setting up dawah booths at malls and dawah billboards, etc. See http://www.WhyIslam.org/877/Resources .

Islam and Christianity

And nearest among them in love to the believers wilt thou find those who say, "W e are Christians": because amongst these are men devoted to learning and men who have renounced the world, and they are not arrogant. And when they listen to t he revelation received by the Messenger, thou wilt see their eyes overflowing wi th tears, for they recognise the truth: they pray: "Our Lord! we believe; write us down among the witnesses. "What cause can we have not to believe in Allah an d the truth which has come to us, seeing that we long for our Lord to admit us t o the company of the righteous?" And for this their prayer hath Allah rewarded t hem with gardens, with rivers flowing underneath,- their eternal home. Such is t he recompense of those who do good. Quran 5:82-5:85

If a Christian claims that Islam has harsh punishments and Christianity is a religion of love ... Here are some prescribed biblical punishments (with biblical references) http://www.islaminfo.com/compararticle.asp?level=17 . Let us deal in facts. Some punishment or the threat of punishment may be required (as is in Islam) but do ALL the biblical cases warrant the punishment mentioned? Alternatively, a response from a completely different angle click here . It should be remembered that in order to have punishments that a just and proper system should be in place first. Ther overall picture is important. (Hazrat Umar (ra) even curtailed certain punishments when there was a famine.) Muslims should also remember that amoung the names of God are al-Wadood (The Loving) and Ar-Rahmaan (The Merciful). In the US today cruel and unusual punishment is exacted on very large numbers of innocent and decent Americans (e.g. victims) while in Islam punishment is directed at a handful of criminals. Another of God's names in Islam is al-Muqsit (The Equitable, The One who is Just in His Judgement). In Islam Justice and Mercy go hand in hand. After all, it is difficult to have one without the other.
